Tom and Mary Jane Fox left their respective careers in hotel management and the travel industry to work full-time for St. Matthew's Catholic Church in September 1986. For almost seven years, their main ministry has been door-to-door home visitation, but they have also helped to get other outreach ministries established at St. Matthew's. In 1993 the Pilgrim Center of Hope was founded by Tom and Mary Jane with the blessing of Most Reverend Patrick Flores, D.D. Archbishop Emeritus. And recently have been encouraged by Most Reverend Jose H. Gomez, S.T.D., Archbishop of San Antonio. Deacon Tom and Mary Jane have received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.
Tom was ordained to the permanent Diaconate in August 1988. Both Tom and Mary Jane have attended numerous workshops, courses and conferences on Catholic Evangelization and are current members of Evangelization 2000 & Association of Coordinators of Catholic Schools of Evangelization. In 1991, both became Oblates of St. John.
The skills acquired in their previous careers serve them in their mission to evangelize through home-to-home visitation, pilgrimages, parish missions, classes, presentations and writings. They have given presentations in California, Kansas, Louisiana, Mexico, and Texas. They have also assisted the pastor of St. Ignatius Parish in Belize City, Belize, Central America in June of 1989 and June 1990, in a parish-wide evangelization effort.
Articles have been written about both the Home Visitation Ministry as well as The Pilgrim Center of Hope in five nation-wide Catholic periodicals. The Pilgrim Center of Hope was presented on The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) show, Living His Life Abundantly in 1995 in the video I Am the Bread of Life produced by Stepstone Productions, Inc.
Tom was a hotel manager for Ramada Inns, Inc. and Mary Jane was a supervisor at USAA Travel Agency.
Deacon Tom has a BA in Sociology and Psychology Mary Jane studied Physical Education and Administration.
